The DIGEM Methodology Guide | ![]() During DigEM project we have succeeded in forming a methodological framework that may be used by the trainers for Digital Empowerment. The methodology approach is the general framework for the trainers on how to use the contents and tools of Digem in order to deliver these trainings. The methodology Guide This guide to Digital Storytelling has been produced by Digital Empowerment (DigEm), a European Commission project supported through the Lifelong Learning Programme. The methodology flows from our shared experience of developing and running Digital Storytelling workshops with many groups of people from across Europe, who experience barriers to the labour market, are disadvantaged, marginalized or vulnerable. It also draws on a number of other widely available guides, which are referenced in the bibliography and links are provided in this guide and its appendices. This guide provides an overview of the methodology and the ingredients required to create successful digital storytelling projects. It is accompanied by three more detailed guides providing information on the technical aspects of digital storytelling, Storytelling Games and approaches to Evaluation. Our document aspires to be more than a ‘nuts and bolts’ guide simply describing what is needed to run a digital storytelling workshop. Our imagined readers are trainers who are new to digital storytelling, who wish to understand the process and learn the skills and push the boundaries of digital storytelling techniques further themselves. The historical and academic background summarized provides some context for this work and demonstrates that digital storytelling is being used and adapted worldwide. Those adopting this practice join a global network which is rapidly gaining presence, power and profile. To download the methodology guide, click here. The methodology guide is accompanied by two very useful documents in order to run the workshops: Storytelling Games: This document includes a detailed description of games to use as icebreakers, games to start creating stories and games for the participants to develop their own stories. These simple games require little equipment. You need to ensure you have adequate space to |

A five day workshop was kick started by a special showcase session highlighting work completed by Digitales through the pan European Digem partnership. People across Europe are exploring different ways to use digital technology to tell stories about their lives. Students from the Management School at University of Stirling were given an opportunity to learn from the experiences of others and to adapt digital storytelling to meet the academic demands of their work in the Management School. Outi Vellacott at Digitales said: “We are delighted have worked with University of Stirling. Digital storytelling is a flexible way to tell stories and it is great to adapt it. It has a huge amount to offer all sorts of people. It was really exciting to show Digem and other projects to colleagues at the University of Stirling. I hope these stories will inspire the students so they find new ways complete their own digi-essays.” |
